Do You Ever Feel Desperate For Fashion

I realize that I can't live without water or food, but when I see a designer jacket, handbag, jeans or shoes I feel I can't live without it! It's a terrible feeling. Today I gasped for air because the jacket I wanted at Opening Ceremony was sold out in my size. Hardly a crisis since people die in the world everyday and there is violence and hate all around us, I still was sad about it. Maybe because what attaining that item would mean. It would mean I own something that others in the Midwest probably don't (and fashionable people from the Midwest know what I mean). I come from a land where Aeropostalé is considered chic (I vomit a little in my mouth) and a great dinner is considered one composed of starch and meat, um where are the vegetables. I am in Chicago, but let's face it Chicago is hardly Dubuque, Iowa (the link here is gross), but it is also far from L.A. or N.Y.C. For instance today I was at Filene's Basement looking at their designer clothes, which seem to only consist of Piazza Sempione, D&G, and St. John. Well I'm not a 60 year old or a hooker so nothing appeals to me. I go to ask an employee how often they get new designer clothing in. She explained that at Filene's Basement they never get any new clothing in. Say What? Apparently they just rotate the clothing out with other stores, that's why if you see a Missoni sweater with a pulled thread out of it, it will then disappear and the same sweater will reappear five years later looking like your dog ate it. In other words Filene's Basement sucks major ass!

So I often feel desperate for fashion. Searching for the next great deal, the next best item, the hottest pair of jeans. I could wear a different outfit everyday of the year and some of my clothes never see the light of day, yet I still want more. I see this as an issue, but at the same time I love wearing art. I loving wearing clothing that is different and I love it to garner a reaction that is one of disbelief, or "what were you thinking?" Here some things I am currently craving, two of which are food items, but I bake and eat lot.

Food I am yearning:

Oh and here is a review of Filene's Basement in my area from Yelp from Christopher E. in Nashville, TN. I thought it was hilarious and so true.

"Filene's basement effing sucks and it is the embodiment of what is wrong with our society today.  Let me expand on that if you will.

The prices are terrible.  I about choked when I saw a Dolce T-Shirt going for 100 bucks.  There was nothing special about this T shirt.  It had NO writing on it.  It was pretty thin...made of cotton...for 100 bucks??  If I'm buying a T-Shirt for 100 bucks, a date with Christina Aguilera better come with it.  The jeans are still hideously expensive too.

Who buys this crap anyway??  Who pays that much for a label??  Well, I have an idea who does, based on this conversation I heard while on an escalator:

40 year old lady to her friend: "I got all excited because I looked back and I saw JUICY!!  Then I saw it was just your bag."

I was thinking to myself....lady, you're in your 40s.  You just talked excitedly about Juicy Couture like you were a 17 year old girl.  There are problems here at work.  In a country and world where the economy is in the preverbial crapper, jumping up and down about a brand that's made for people 20 years your junior isn't very flattering for you.
This country really sickens me sometimes, and this store really was a microcausm of that.  People paying way too much for brands that offer them nothing more than the ability to feel like they are a greater person for having a particular tag attached to their clothes.  It's sad, it's truly sad."

What are you are desperate for? Tell me I want to know what you are craving fashion or food, include links.

  4. It's funny that you say I look like Alyssa Milano. When my mom named me when I was born she named me after Alyssa Milano's character on "Who's The Boss."
